課程概述 |
本課程主要以閱讀與討論二次大戰以後美國史的史料與史學名著為主。討論的議題有冷戰的源起、一九五０年代的社會、麥加錫主義，一九六０年代民權運動、越戰、新左派運動、婦女運動等等。教學方式包括學生口頭報告、課堂討論，以及期末考(或書面報告)。學生的口頭及書面報告，除了摘要論文內容及其結論外，並應就該著作的說理、組織，以及該論著的特點提出自己的看法。對本課程史實不熟悉的同學，可以自行參考Gary B. Nash, et al , The American People: Creating a Nation and a Society, 6th Edition (Pearson Education, 2004)第二冊或George B. Tindall et al , The Essential America(Norton, 2001)有關章節。本課程另開設研導一學分，在本課程之後一小時，配合本課程，專門指導本課學生撰寫研究報告。

課程目標 |
除了熟悉美國現代史之歷史解釋之外，培養學生閱讀英文論文之能力，自行利用各種網路工具進行研究。另外透過同學之間的互評、討論方式，學習寫作及口語表達能力。 |

課程要求 |
學生要預先準備所分配論文閱讀與翻譯，在預定時間內輪流為全班同學報告其預習之內容。在預定報告時間，不可在任意缺課。如因無故缺席，耽誤到整個課程進度，期末總成績將扣五分。 |
